Sobie Maduka didn't think twice about letting a stranger who appeared to be in need borrow her iPhone.

Maduka 23, was walking out of the University of Texas at Arlington library when a man she didn't know approached.

"Can I use your phone?" she said he asked. "Someone stole my bag in the library."

That was a mistake. He took off with her iPhone 4 and its case.

"It was horrible, horrible, horrible," Maduka said. "I let people use my phone all the time and nothing like this has ever happened."

Five former UNT employees indicted in alleged scheme

A grand jury has indicted five former University of North Texas College of Information employees, including the college’s budget officer, on charges that they conspired to bilk more than $75,000 from the university.

The grand jury indicted Tisha Slagle, 58, John Pipes, 57, Lindsey Collings, 31, and Theresa Jackson, 51, on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity. Diane Green, 56, has been indicted on a theft charge, UNT spokeswoman Kelley Reese said.

Slagle, Pipes, Collings, Jackson and Green could not be reached for comment.

Students at the University of North Texas are on high alert after a graduate student was attacked just off campus early Thursday morning.

The assault happened just after 3 a.m. at the Hickory Village apartments when a Japanese exchange student arrived home after studying at Willis Library, police said.

"Instead of going straight to her apartment, she went to her mailbox to check her mail," Officer Ryan Grelle said. "On the way back, she got to her apartment and tried to close the door."
