Focus on college success!

The "Fostering Outstanding Cohorts in Undergraduate Science" (FOCUS) Program at the University of North Texas (UNT) was established in 2009 through a grant from the National Science Foundation. FOCUS offers competitive scholarships to entering freshmen who plan to major in chemistry, biochemistry, or biology. Scholarship awards vary from $1,000 to $7,000 per academic year, for up to two years.

FOCUS Scholarships

FOCUS participants begin their college career with a cohort of peers with whom they share courses and extracurricular opportunities like field trips and seminars. As well, FOCUS scholars receive mentoring from peers, science graduate students, and faculty. During their sophomore year, FOCUS scholars participate in a "Careers in Science" course where they explore career paths and opportunities for undergraduate research. For eligibility requirements and applications, select the "Focus Scholarships" tab above.

New for 2012! FOCUSBIO

Beginning in Fall 2012, the Department fo Biological Sciences will offer additional cohorts for biology and biochemistry majors who do not receive a FOCUS Scholarship. These FOCUSBIO cohorts will provide many of the same benefits of the FOCUS Program, including shared course scheduling and mentoring opportunities. Select "FOCUSBIO" above for more information.
