The annual campus partnership with the WFAA Santa's Helpers Toy Drive, a program that helps brighten the holidays for as many as 50,000 North Texas children, continues until 9 a.m. Dec. 17.
The toy drive is sponsored by the Staff Council, Faculty Senate and the Student Government Association, and supports the university’s goal to be involved in the North Texas community.
Toys - which should be new and unwrapped - can be donated at wrapped collection boxes at campus locations, below. Boxes will be collected beginning Dec. 17. Toys will be placed in delivery boxes and taken to WFAA's designated collection areas.
Above, Staff Council members, from left, Rhonda Acker, Dilana King and Charles Andrews prepare collection boxes.
The program collects toys for children who might not otherwise receive gifts during this holiday season, including children and families in Denton County. Many offices fill a toy box as part of an annual holiday party or community service event.
Cash donations also are accepted.
Donation boxes will be available at the annual faculty and staff Holiday Party, from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 in the University Union, Silver Eagle Suite. Attendees who bring a toy will be entered into a drawing for a Staff Council tumbler cup.
The UNT Bookstore will give faculty and staff a 25 percent discount on UNT-branded clothing and gifts Dec. 5-7. So while you are stocking up on Mean Green gear, consider buying a Mean Green sports item or stuffed toy for a child who just might grow up to be a future student.
