The 2012 annual convocation begins at 8:15 a.m. Sept. 6, in the University Union Silver Eagle Suite. Wear green, come early, enjoy continental breakfast at 7:45 a.m., and learn about successes and goals for the university.

Denton County Transportation Authority customers can learn about plans for service improvements at several public meetings. UNT will host DCTA at noon Sept. 5 in the University Union, Room 413. DCTA operates the UNT Shuttle, Connect bus service and the A Train.

M. Jean Keller has been appointed as the acting dean for the Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism. She replaces interim dean Roy Busby, who continues as associate dean in the school’s graduate program.

The Net-Centric Software and Systems Center received a 2012 Tech Titan of the Future award from the Metroplex Technology Business Council. The award recognizes higher education institutions in the Dallas-Fort Worth region who support students in engineering and technology. Shelley Riggs, associate professor of psychology, and student researchers plan to recruit 200 veterans who are attending four year colleges and universities to learn how military experience affects their college experience.

Richard A. Dixon, a world-renowned specialist in metabolic engineering of plants and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, will join UNT in 2013. Recruitment for prominent research faculty began in 2008, when the cluster model was established.
