Director of educational research for Texas Instruments to discuss K-12 classroom technology

DENTON (UNT), Texas — University of North Texas students will be able to hear a leading expert discuss new strategies for improving the use of technology in elementary and secondary schools by attending the College of Information’s free Colloquium Series Nov. 6 (Tuesday).
The featured speaker will be Wellesley R. (Rob) Foshay, director of educational research for the Education Technology Group of Texas Instruments, who notes that while more and more K through 12 students are using the Internet, smartphones and other educational technology in their classrooms, investments in information and communication technologies have resulted in little to no evidence of improved learning and improved cost efficiency. Foshay’s lecture, “Technology in K-12: Are We Ready for Prime Time?,” begins at 6 p.m. in Room B155 of UNT’s Discovery Park campus. The campus is located at 3940 N. Elm St. in Denton. A reception will be held before the lecture at 5:30 p.m.
In his position at Texas Instruments, Foshay manages TI’s extensive education research portfolio on effectiveness of TI’s products and services in math and science education. He was formerly the chief instructional architect of the PLATO — Programmed Logic for Automated Teaching Operations — system, which was developed during the 1960s and ‘70s and one of the original e-learning systems. Foshay is president of The Foshay Group, a Dallas-based alliance of independent consultants that provides information on training e-learning, research, knowledge management, human performance technology and education industry marketing to corporate trainers and educators. Currently a faculty member with the online institution Walden University, Foshay has also taught at the University of Illinois-Champaign.
