Houston Program - Student Activities and Organizations
The Houston Program offers an array of fun and educational enrichment activities for students, including:
- All School Day – This event occurs twice a year, Fall and Spring semesters, and features a different educational theme each time. Past themes include: "Legal Issues and Information Professionals" and "From Student to Professional: The Transition."
- New Houston Student Orientation – This event occurs twice a year, Fall and Spring semesters, in conjunction with the Web Institutes. The students learn more about the master’s program and have the opportunity to network with invited information professionals.
- Back to School Bash – This event occurs once a year in the Fall semester to welcome new students and introduce them to Houston area current students and alumni.
- Field Trips – The Student Coordinator arranges field trips to local libraries and information centers. Past field trips include: the Hirsch Library at the Museum of Fine Arts,the Research Medical Library at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the Barbara Jordan Collection and Archives at Texas Southern University.
- Study Groups – The Student Coordinator arranges study groups for the core courses in the program.
- Mixers – In coordination with Houston LISSA, the Houston Program offers informal opportunities for students to get together to discuss their educational experiences.
Students in the Houston Program can also join the Library and Information Science Student Association (LISSA), and we encourage all students to participate in this organization. The local Houston Chapter of LISSA also organizes activities for students, such as the mixers described above. It is a wonderful way for students to network and get involved in the profession.

Communication Methods
The LIS-Announce-L listserv is the official communication method of UNT-LIS. Announcements about the Houston Program are also made using the LIS Village.
