James Maguire

JAMES MAGUIRE
Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services

James Maguire began his service as Vice Chancellor for of Administrative Services and Chief Architect on July 30, 2012. In this position, Mr. Maguire is responsible for oversight of all major facility design and  construction projects including architect and contractor selection, design development,  field oversight of ongoing projects, and campus master planning for all of the University of North Texas (UNT) System campuses.  The Vice Chancellor also is responsible for all real estate activities of the System including land acquisition and mineral leases. In addition, he undertakes administrative special assignments for the Chancellor. 

With a staff of 20 architects, interior designers and other construction and administrative professionals, his office provides professional planning and construction management for the campuses and the System Administration for all major renovation and construction projects.  These responsibilities range from initial project development through programming, design, construction and commissioning. The Vice Chancellor represents the System Administration before the Board of Regents and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in all matters related to construction projects. Working closely with the administration, faculty, staff and students the System Administration’s planning and construction implements the highest standards in design particularly focusing on high performance, efficient and sustainable facilities. 

Maguire formerly served as associate vice president for Campus Planning and Facilities at Boise State University. Prior to that assignment, he was director of Capital Program Implementation for the University of California System and an architect in private practice.

At Boise State, Maguire's responsibilities included facilities operations and maintenance; public safety, risk management and transportation; facilities planning and design, architectural and engineering services and space planning. He also chaired the Facilities Planning Council.  During his six year tenure at Boise State nearly 1.5 million square feet of new academic, research, athletic, housing and support facilities were completed. 

Maguire received his master's in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, and bachelor's degrees in fine arts and architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design. He is a licensed architect in California and is registered with the NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards).
