The Libraries are also accepting applications for posters to be displayed at the event. More information is available here.

Seminar - Application of Scale Models in Designing Smoke Control Systems 11/08/2012 - 2:00pm

This seminar will be held Thursday, Nov 8th at 2:00PM in room B140 of Discovery Park.

Professor W.K. Chow is the Chair Professor of Architectural Science and Fire Engineering, at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He also serves as the Head of Department of Building Services Engineering since 2009.

In this talk, two examples of scale models are used to demonstrate the approach in designing smoke control systems for large special buildings.

Seminar - Advancing Systems Bioinformatics to Modeling and Deciphering Plant Gene Regulatory Networks 11/09/2012 - 11:00am

This seminar will be held in room F223 of Discovery Park on Friday, November 9th at 11:00AM.

Dr. Patrick X. Zhao is an Associate Professor, Head of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Lab at the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation. He received his Ph.D. degree in Communications and Information Systems from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2000.

In this seminar, he will discuss his recent/ongoing R&D efforts, e.g., developing a series of novel computational methods and algorithms for (1) identification of plant transcription factors (TFs), (2) identification and analysis of plant regulatory small RNAs such as small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), (3) modeling plant sRNA-mRNA interaction and prediction of plant small RNAs’ regulatory target genes, and (4) inference and construction global GRNs from large scale microarray-based and/or RNA-Seq-based gene expression data.

MTSE Seminar - Polymer Adhesion 11/16/2012 - 11:00am

Discovery Park Room B155

Professor Erik van der Giessen of the University of Groningen will be presenting this seminar titled "Polymer Adhesion: How to Extract a Cohesive Law from MD Simulations." Food and drinks will be available at the MTSE Conference Room E132 immediately after the seminar.

Seminar - Challenges in Building a Swarm of Robotic Bees 11/20/2012 - 11:00am

This seminar will discuss the RoboBees project, a 5-yr $10M NSF Innovation in Computing effort to building a swarm of flapping-wing micro-aerial vehicles (MAV), and the numerous challenges associated with the project. It will be hosted by Dr. Karthik Dantu of Harvard University in room F223.
