Stephen D. Barrett is vice president for operations at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He provides leadership for the Facilities Management Department, HSC Police Department, the Safety Office and Central Services. As vice president for operations, Barrett coordinates with the University of North Texas System for implementation of master plan and capital projects. He is responsible for budgetary planning and oversight, strategic planning, and process improvement. Operations ensures the Health Science Center’s facilities and grounds are aesthetically pleasing, clean, well maintained, energy efficient, safe, secure and appropriate to support the Health Science Center’s mission while providing responsive, friendly and efficient customer service.

Barrett began his service at the Health Science Center in 1999 as construction manager. He was promoted to the director of facilities management in August 2001, assistant vice president for facilities management in September 2007 and associate vice president of operations in 2009. His construction and facilities experiences include tenant finish-outs; landscaping; utility and energy conservation; bridge and road; large commercial; and education, research and medical facilities.

Barrett earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology – Construction Technology from Texas State University – San Marcos in 1998. He completed APPA’s Institute for Facilities Management in 2002. Barrett earned a Master of Business Administration from Texas Christian University in December 2008.
