Vocal Studies

The division of Vocal Studies has nine full-time faculty and eight graduate teaching fellows. There are over 75 students pursuing the Bachelor's, Master's and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in voice performance. The division also serves over 100 music majors with voice as their concentration who are pursuing degrees in Music Education, Jazz Studies, Composition, etc. Secondary lessons are available for music majors with other concentrations, as well as other majors across campus. Faculty of the Division of Vocal Studies teach courses in Vocal Pedagogy, Diction, Vocal Literature, Collaborative Piano, and Class Voice.

Recent guests include Darren Keith Woods and Joseph Illick of Fort Worth Opera, Matthew Horner of IMG Artists, Ann Baltz of OperaWorks, and David Brock of Texas Christian University and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.
 
ALUMNI of the Division of Vocal Studies include:

• Soprano Patricia Racette, who recently appeared as Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly with the San Francisco Opera and Ellen Orford in Britten’s Peter Grimes with the Metropolitan Opera—productions that were broadcast in movie theaters across the United States
• Soprano Emily Pulley, who created the title role in Mark Adamo’s Lysistrata with the Houston Grand Opera
• Mezzo-soprano Lauren McNeese, who has appeared with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Los Angeles Opera
• Tenor Jeffrey Picon, who appeared as Goro in Madama Butterfly in the 
New York City Opera production broadcast on PBS
• Tenor Scott Sculley, who has appeared with the Houston Grand Opera and 
Fort Worth Opera
• Baritone Michael Mayes, who has appeared with Michigan Opera Theatre and 
Cincinnati Opera.
• Bass Mark McCrory, who appeared in Salome, Macbeth, and The Merry Widow with 
The Dallas Opera
