Fernando Florez and Ruben Jimenez Jr. are polar opposites when it comes to politics.

Florez likes Democrats - President Barack Obama and state Sen. Wendy Davis.

Jimenez favors Republicans - Mitt Romney for president and Dr. Mark Shelton in the race against Davis.

Both are actively involved this election season, encouraging their neighbors to vote, giving pep talks and offering rides to the polls.

University of North Texas freshman Alyssa Wolverton is passionate about changing how people think about the environment.

“The environment is something everyone should agree on because everyone is using it,” the 18-year-old said.

Wolverton is currently participating in Project Green Challenge, a 30-day eco-lifestyle challenge, with more than 2,000 other high school and college students.

UNT students brought a whole new meaning to the phrase “brain food” Monday afternoon for Willis Library’s 9th annual Edible Book Festival.

These book-smart culinary artists submitted 15 different entries, including a batch of yellow cupcakes propped up on slender wooden sticks and topped with green sprinkles, white frosting and colorful feathers to represent the endangered truffula trees from Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.
