DENTON, Texas (11/11/12) - The North Texas women's
volleyball team won the Sun Belt Conference West Division title with a 3-0 win against
Arkansas-Little Rock on Sunday afternoon at the Mean Green Volleyball Center.
With the victory, North Texas earned a No. 3 seed in the upcoming Sun Belt
Conference Tournament.
The Mean Green improves to 23-11 overall and 9-5 in the
Sun Belt. North Texas splits the conference series, 1-1, with the Trojans. With
the 23 wins, North Texas is now tied for the third-most victories for a single season
in school history.
With its 9-5 conference record and win against UALR,
North Texas wins its third SBC West Division title in school history and its
second in three years. Head coach Ken Murczek wins his second division title in
three years as head coach.
For the second straight match, Carnae Dillard led the
Mean Green with 18 kills and 13 digs, her fourth double-double. In her final
home match, May Allen also recorded a double-double with 46 assists and 10
digs.
Courtney Windham registered 10 kills, and Hanna Forst was
one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs. Forst tied a
career high in kills and set a personal best with a .381 attack percentage. She
committed only one error.
Dillard led the Mean Green in the first set, compiling
six kills to help the Mean Green to a 25-21 win. Forst came up strong in the
second, recording six kills and committing zero errors. North Texas led by as
many as five points in the second set but allowed UALR to come back before North
Texas came away with the 27-25 victory.
Behind a team .316 attack percentage, North Texas came
back from a 14-10 deficit in the third set to take the 25-22 win and the sweep.
North Texas will be the No. 3 seed in the Sun Belt
Tournament, which begins Nov. 15 in Bowling Green, Ky.The Mean Green will face No. 6 Middle Tennessee on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m. All games will be streamed live on sunbeltsports.org.
