- Today's Huffington Post front page reflects what I have been saying for some time - the road to the White House goes through Latino neighborhoods. Nobody can deny the power of the Latino vote and the immigration issue in what happened yesterday. More here: http://bit.ly/ReadyToWork

- In state after state and in the nation as a whole, Latino voters made the difference for President Obama and for Democrats. It was an act of faith that Latino voters pulled the lever in overwhelming numbers for President Obama who has deported more than a million immigrants. Now, the President must work with Congress to live up to that faith. I am ready to work with the President and anyone else who is serious about solutions for the American people and for immigrants. -LVG

Jose M. Quintero, the first DREAMer in Illinois to receive his work permit, spoke with OurTiempo.com Los Angeles and offered some advice to fellow immigrant youth: "go out there and fill out your D.A.C.A. application NOW – there is no need to be scared. If ever in the future anyone tries to take our work permits away and deport us there will be uproar."Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez shared a link.
Since 1848 US Latinos have had to fight for the right to vote. Across the nation Latino voters faced - and continue to face - intimidation at the polls; but this November 6th we will not be intimidated, we will exercise our hard-won right and VOTE! All signs point to record turnout among Latinos voters in 2012. -LVG- I hope every family across the fourth congressional district and the United States has a happy and safe Halloween!

Romney called Arizona's anti-immigrant law "a model for the nation." Romney may think that laws like SB1070 should be duplicated across the country, but in Illinois we're doing things differently. Starting Thursday Illinois' undocumented st...udents may apply for a scholarship through the IL Dream Fund. This scholarship, created by the IL Dream Act, is a true model for our nation; a model that upholds the American traditions of welcoming immigrants and treating all people with dignity and respect.See MoreCongressman Luis V. What's fair: asking hungry kids and seniors to eat less or asking millionaires and billionaires to receive less tax cuts? Millionaires and billionaires don't need more tax cuts, but working parents, their children, and our seniors need the ...nutrition provided by food stamps. As I told NPR's Marketplace: SNAP (food stamps) is "about government attempting to combat hunger in America... that's a laudable goal for the richest and most powerful nation in the world." -LVGSee MoreCongressman Luis V. The head of the Department of Homeland Security - Janet Napolitano - announced yesterday that 200,000 young people have applied for Deferred Action. 200,000 in two months is a good start, and I'm happy for each individual that has taken the...first steps out of the shadows. Here are my ten reasons why our undocumented young people should continue to come forward and apply for their work permit and protection from deportation. -LVGSee More- Through November 2nd little constituents that visit my North Avenue district office can decorate a 'Dia De Los Muertos calavera' while their parents receive assistance. From The Economist: "A nation that can attract the cleverest people in the world can innovate and prosper indefinitely. Unless it does what America has done since September 11th 2001, which is to make the immigration process so slow, unpredictable and unpleasant that migrants stay away."Congressman Luis V. “The more people know about the reality of immigration, the more open they are to immigration reform and finding ways to include immigrants in a path forward,” said Rachel Bronson, vice president of studies at the council. “It seems like something is easing now, and there may be room for improving a broken immigration system.”Congressman Luis V.
