Boehner Calls on Obama to Personally Order the Release of Info on Delphi Pension Scandal

While President Obama keeps talking about the taxpayer-funded corporate bailout of General Motors and Chrysler, Speaker John Boehner says there’s one part he won’t discuss: the Delphi pension scandal.

That’s why, in an op-ed released in Ohio, Speaker Boehner himself is calling on President Obama to personally “order the release of all administration records associated with the decision to slash pensions for non-union auto workers at Delphi during his taxpayer-funded auto bailout.”

A Government Accountability Office (GAO) report requested by Boehner and Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) in 2010 “found that the Obama administration’s union allies were given preferential treatment” during the bailout, “while non-union workers saw their pensions cut by up to 70 percent.”

“The critical questions,” says Boehner, are “who within the administration authorized this action, and why?” Delphi workers have a “right to know why this decision was made and how it was justified.”

Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), Ways & Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI), Education & the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN), and others have been demanding answers and keeping the heat on the Obama administration. Boehner notes that Delphi retirees are also fighting back, and highlights their Twitter account: @DelphiPensions.

“The Delphi pension scandal underscores the danger of government bureaucrats picking winners and losers in the private sector,” says Boehner. “That’s why my colleagues and I have focused on getting our economy moving by getting government out of the way, and removing barriers that make it harder to create jobs.” Read Boehner’s full column here and learn more about the pension scandal here.
