Rep. Pallone Praises Decision to Open Fort Monmouth for Temporary Housing for Hurricane Sandy Victims

Nov 13, 2012 Issues: New Jersey

WASHINGTON DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today released the following statement praising the decision to re-open Fort Monmouth to temporarily house residents displaced by Hurricane Sandy:

“I am pleased to learn of the decision to open Fort Monmouth to temporarily house families displaced by Hurricane Sandy.  This is a smart move that will enable us to provide housing to up to 600 New Jersey families whose homes were devastated by the Hurricane.  I hope they continue to consider other potential uses for the assets at Fort Monmouth to help those impacted by this storm.

“The state will be using a lottery system to place residents in Fort Monmouth.  The interim housing will be a relief to families whose lives were interrupted, and provide a sense of normalcy as we move towards the recovery period and rebuilding the Jersey Shore.

“I thank all involved in opening up these homes to displaced local families and look forward to working with local and state authorities and the communities to rebuild the areas devastated by Hurricane Sandy.”
