Washington, Sep 18 -

Iowa Congressman Tom Latham has been recognized with the 2012 “Fueling Growth Award” from Growth Energy, a group representing America’s ethanol producers and supporters. The group acknowledged Latham’s work for “consistent and predictable federal [ethanol] policy,” which has helped “[create] jobs right here in America … and saves consumers money at the pump” in presenting the award.

“I am honored to be recognized for my work on behalf of America’s ethanol producers,” Congressman Latham said. “Representing the nation’s largest ethanol-producing state, I fully understand the importance of ethanol to job creators and consumers in Iowa and across the country. Lawmakers should continue to incorporate ethanol as part of an all-of-the-above energy strategy to help secure energy independence, promote American jobs and lower gas prices.”

Congressman Latham has long supported a comprehensive energy strategy that encourages development of biorenewable sources. In 2009, he wrote a letter to President Barack Obama in support of increasing the regulatory cap on ethanol blends in gasoline beyond the 10 percent limit. Additionally, he was appointed last year to the House Energy Action Team, or “HEAT”, which promotes Republican “all-of-the-above” energy policies.
