Ames, IA, Oct 22 - The nation’s largest manufacturing association recognized Iowa Congressman Tom Latham Friday for his support of policies critical to the success of manufacturing in Iowa and across the United States. The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) presented its Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence to Congressman Latham Friday morning at an event hosted by Cargill AgHorizons in Council Bluffs.

Congressman Latham was recognized for his work and support of the policies identified as critical to the success of manufacturing in Iowa and the United States during the past two years of the 112th Congress.

"Working to promote manufacturing in Iowa and all across the United States is one of my top priorities and is critical to our nation's economic recovery," said Congressman Latham. "Ensuring that the manufacturing industry has access to new trade markets and the tax and regulatory certainty it needs to prosper will help strengthen our economy. I look forward to continuing my work toward these goals on behalf of Iowa's manufacturing community."

“Cargill AgHorizons thanks Congressman Latham for ensuring that the manufacturing voice is heard in Washington,” said Cargill AgHorizons Farm Service Group Leader Robert Racek, who presented the award to Congressman Latham. “It is leaders like Congressman Latham who know that manufacturers are drivers of economic growth, job creation and prosperity.”

“Manufacturers today compete in a global marketplace,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons. “It is critical that Washington creates policies to keep us competitive and maintain our mantle of economic leadership. Congressman Latham understands this and has consistently supported the pro-manufacturing agenda through his votes in Congress.”

The NAM awards are based on members of Congress’s votes on key manufacturing legislation identified by the NAM in the 112th Congress. Among Congressman Latham’s key votes were his vote to require more regulatory accountability from federal agencies (vote), votes to approve job-creating free trade agreements with Korea (vote), Panama (vote) and Colombia (vote), and his vote to repeal the health care law (vote).
