Today the House passed The Sequestration Transparency Act, a bill that requires the Administration to submit a report to Congress detailing how the required spending cuts – totaling $1.2 trillion over ten years – will be implemented. Unless Congress takes steps now to prevent it, current law will lead to the largest tax increase in American history combined with devastating cuts to our nation’s military.
House Republicans have passed a bill – the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act – to replace these arbitrary, across-the-board cuts with prudent, common-sense cuts and reforms. Despite warnings from economists and the leadership of our armed forces, the Senate refuses to consider the House’s proposal, and the President has threatened to veto the bill should it reach his desk. If the President doesn’t like the plan put forth by the House, then the Administration has the responsibility to tell Congress and the American people exactly how it plans to implement these spending reductions.
