Michaud Statement on Libya Attack

WASHINGTON, DCToday, Congressman Mike Michaud issued the following statement in reaction to reports on the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya and the death of Christopher Stevens, U.S. ambassador to Libya, and other Americans:

I’m shocked by this attack on our consulate in Libya and saddened by the death of Ambassador Stevens and the other Americans killed in this heinous act. My heart goes out to their families and my prayers are with them.

I strongly support the President’s call to increase security at our diplomatic posts. Our ambassadors and their staff play critical roles in managing our foreign policy on the ground and helping promote positive relations between the U.S. and other countries. In this case, they were working to help the people of Libya move forward and rebuild in the aftermath of a revolution. They should never be targets. I know I join all Americans in condemning this shameful attack.
