Michaud Praises House Passage of the Veterans’ COLA Increase

Jul 9, 2012 Issues: Fighting for our Veterans

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Congressman Mike Michaud, Ranking Member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health, praised the House’s overwhelming passage of H.R. 4114, the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2012.

“Veterans have earned their benefits through their sacrifices for our country, and it is only right that they receive the same cost-of-living increase as Social Security beneficiaries,” said Michaud. “As a cosponsor of this bill, I am pleased that the House has voted to pass this important measure, and I urge the Senate to pass it quickly and send it to the president for his signature.”

This legislation ensures that benefits for disabled veterans and certain survivors of veterans increase by the same amount as Social Security benefits. It would take effect on December 1, 2012 and increase benefits for 2013.
