Udall Welcomes Cease-Fire Between Israel and Hamas
Mark Udall welcomed news today that Israel and Hamas have reached a cease-fire agreement with the assistance of the Egyptian government and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Udall cautioned that while this is welcome news for Israel and the Middle East, the next 24 hours will be crucial to determining whether the cease-fire will be effective.
"This cease-fire is welcome news for Israelis, the Palestinians and all who reside in the region. Too many lives have already been lost over the past week," Udall said. "Israel has a right to defend itself and its citizens from attack. And Hamas should realize that every rocket it fires into Israel sets back its cause — and prospects for a sustainable resolution to this conflict. It is my hope that the cease-fire holds and provides a starting point for a lasting peace."
