CONGRESSMAN BACHUS REMARKS ON HOUSE TAX REFORM VOTE PDF Print

WASHINGTON (August 2) – Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) issued the following statement on legislation passed by the House today authorizing comprehensive tax reform (H.R. 6169, the Pathway to Job Creation through a Simpler, Fairer Tax Code Act).

“There is no debating the point that the current U.S. tax code is an absolute mess. The date of April 15, the deadline for filing tax returns, is now one of the most dreaded days on the calendar. The tax code is confusing, complicated, enormously costly to comply with, and puts the United States at a competitive disadvantage internationally. The principles contained in this legislation set us on the path towards tax reform that will promote growth and restore sanity to the system. Getting tax reform right is critical to job creation and our economy and it’s time to start the serious work of bringing comprehensive legislation to a vote.”
