About the DCCC

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is the official campaign arm of the Democrats in the House. The DCCC is the only political committee in the country whose principal mission is to support Democratic House candidates every step of the way.

Supporting the DCCC is the single most effective step you can take to continue leading our country in a new direction. By fighting to retake the Democratic Majority in 2012 through protecting our Democratic members and electing new Democrats to Congress we can keep moving America forward.

Rep. Steve Israel, Committee Chair

Representative Steve Israel (D – NY) is the Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. During the 2010 cycle, Israel served as the DCCC’s National Recruitment Chairman, meeting with potential candidates from across the country and recruiting candidates for several successful special elections.

Israel was a key player in the special election successes in NY-20 and NY-23, recruiting top-notch candidates and helping guide them to victory.

New York Times:

Ms. Pelosi, the minority leader, speaks glowingly of his work on two special House elections in upstate New York in 2009. In one of them, a three-way race, he persuaded a moderate Republican to drop out and endorse the Democrat, Bill Owens, handing him the seat. She also cites the $1.9 million Mr. Israel raised for the campaign committee in the 2010 cycle — and the fact that he did not ask for any of it in his own race. He was also one of only a few Democrats to run campaign ads defending his vote for health care legislation.

In announcing his appointment, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Israel’s “practical experience in running and winning in difficult districts will provide critical leadership for Democrats to regain the majority in 2012.” And the New York Times said Israel “has built a reputation for being a prolific fund-raiser.”

Israel has distinguished himself as a national leader on green energy job creation, a defender of civil and human rights, and an advocate for middle class families. Newsday has called Israel a “rising star” and recently described him as “a strong legislator” and “a principled public servant.”

Israel lives in Dix Hills, NY and represents New York's 2nd Congressional District, including the Long Island communities of Huntington, Babylon, Islip, Smithtown and Oyster Bay. He was first elected to Congress in 2000.
