Congratulations to Scott Bacon, Principal at Blue Valley, and Theresa Schulte, one of Blue Valley’s teachers, for this tremendous recognition they received. Thank you to the Kauffman Foundation for encouraging entrepreneurship in Kansas City and thank you to these job creators for taking risk to build companies and create jobs here in Kansas City.

I spoke at the World War I Liberty Memorial Veterans Day event earlier and it was a tremendous honor to thank these brave men and women for what they have done for our country. Their bravery and heroism in the name of freedom and democracy around the world is truly remarkable, and we will never be able to say “Thank You” enough. Today is Veterans Day, and recognizing veterans on this day is the very least we can do to voice our gratitude for these brave men and women.

    Thank you to the many seniors who came out this morning to our Medicare Open Enrollment session at the Lenexa Community Center. Special thank you to the Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK) office who brought counselors to ...
    answer questions, and actually enrolled seniors in Medicare or made changes to their current plan. We were fortunate to have staff from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) office as well who provided a presentation on Medicare changes and helped with counseling. Thank you to all involved! Remember Medicare Open Enrollment period is now through December 7. You may also visit Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE.

    Veterans Day is November 11th. I had the privilege of having lunch at General Electric Veteran Network’s commemoration event in Merriam, KS today honoring WWII veterans. I thanked the many veterans there today, including several from WWII, for their service to our nation. Thank you to Jack Hiles for inviting me and highlighting these true heroes from “The Greatest Generation.”

My thanks to Cary Savage, PhD, Peter Smith, PhD, Randolph Nudo, PhD and Bill Brooks, PhD, for taking the time to share the latest neuroscience advancements with me.

    I recently visited the National Institutes of Health (NIH), an important partner in these research efforts here in Kansas City. They are working together to help develop new technologies to improve patient care and provide opportunities for entrepreneurship and job creation.

    This morning I joined the Surprise Squad of the Blue Valley Educational Foundation to award grants at several Blue Valley School District schools. Since 1992, the Foundation has awarded more than $2.4 million for grants, scholarships and special programs. Here at Cedar Hills Elementary in Overland Park, I enjoyed visiting with the students and teachers after the surprise.
