Bill Johnson Fights for America's Veterans

Washington, D.C., Nov 15 -

Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement today after introducing important legislation that will improve the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program to ensure that veterans are better equipped to find employment. The Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) is a critical program that’s available to unemployed veterans ages 35-60 that offers 12 months of job training assistance, including technical training programs.

“America’s veterans deserve access to the best health care and job training available. This important legislation guarantees veterans more options when selecting technical training programs, and it will provide more access to more technical training programs that will give America’s veterans more opportunities to gain the skills needed to be competitive in today’s job market. Right now, the jobless rate among veterans is improving as a result of the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program. But, we still need to do better, and this legislation will bring new job opportunities to veterans,” said Bill Johnson.

Johnson added, “In Washington County, we are already seeing veterans benefit from expanded technical training options. After working with the VA and the Washington County Career Center, veterans in the area are now able to take advantage of more job training programs. H.R. 6577 would take the important step forward we made in Washington County and bring it nationwide. After spending 26 years in the Air Force, I know how important it is to make sure America’s veterans receive the benefits they have earned, and that they can provide for themselves and their families after they finish their military service.”
