House Moves to Replace President's Energy-Restricting and Job-Limiting Offshore Drilling Plan
07/25/12 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, released the following remarks after the House passed H.R. 6082, the Congressional Replacement of President Obama’s Energy-Restricting and Job-Limiting Offshore Drilling Plan:
“In June, the current administration released its final lease plan for developing America’s offshore energy resources for the next five years. This proposal, deemed President Obama’s No-New-Drilling, No-New-Jobs plan, shuts down 85 percent of drilling off our coasts and opens zero new areas for energy exploration.
“As a consequence of the administration’s continued hesitance to cultivate American-made energy, the United States becomes increasingly dependent on foreign sources of oil, while also stifling much-needed job creation and revenue production at home.
“In contrast to the president’s plan, H.R. 6082 will safely increase oil and gas exploration, development and production, while generating $600 million in revenues and countless jobs here, where they are needed most.
“President Obama claims to want our nation to take control of our energy future, yet he persists on keeping energy sources readily available in our waters off limits. We should not be punishing responsible companies, workers and Americans by allowing incessant bureaucratic barriers stifle energy development, not to mention firmly chaining us to unstable countries to meet our needs. I hope this administration ends its misguided policies by working with us to turn meaningful energy policy into law.”
U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee.
