County staff to take on weight loss challenge

The Arma City Council swore in a new council member at its Monday night meeting.

Man arrested after high-speed chase

A high-speed chase involving Crawford and Cherokee County law enforcement officers occurred over the weekend.

According to a report from the Pittsburg Police Department, officers responded at 1:58 p.m. Friday to the area of the railroad crossing in the 100 block of E. Quincy for numerous reports of a male driving erratically in the area and attempting to stop a northbound train. It was reported the suspect was driving a white van and wearing a bandana covering the lower half of his face.

Hartman Hall gets all-new windows

Pittsburg State University is continuing its renovation of Hartman Hall. University crews have been working since November to replace all of the windows in the building, many of which were installed when it was constructed in 1929. Workers spent several weeks in July of 2011 replacing the building’s roof and much of the masonry.

Morning Jolt: Lottery winner’s death ruled murder

The death of a Chicago man who won $1 million in a lottery and was found dead the next day has been ruled a homicide, police said. The man died about six months ago, and police are looking into the case. They said the man died after ingesting cyanide.
