Elections Mean Many Moves Are Coming

The results of Tuesday's elections mark the beginning of frenzied changes in almost all levels of government. When I am sworn in to the 113th Congress on January 3, 2013, I will be representing the 15th District of Illinois. My previous district, the 19th, will officially cease to exist. As you may know, the results of the 2010 Census meant that Illinois is losing a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives because its population growth lagged behind other states.

The redistricting process put my home in Collinsville in the 15th District, but it placed my office at 240 Regency Centre in Collinsville in the 13th District, which will be represented by Congressman-elect Rodney Davis. Under the law, my legislative offices must be in my legislative district. Therefore, my Collinsville office – as well as the one in Springfield – will have to move by the time the new Congress is seated. This newsletter will update you when the new locations are determined.

Unfortunately, many areas that I have served for more than a decade – with numerous long-time friends and supporters – are not included in the 15th District. After January 3, Congressional courtesy dictates that former constituents will be referred to their new representative. If you fall into that category, please know I greatly appreciate the kindness you have shown me through the years, and I hope you do not take offense to being referred to a new Congressman.

It Is Perfect Time To Thank A Veteran

Today is November 11, 2012, the 94th anniversary of the end of "The War to End All Wars," now known as World War I. The armistice concluding what many nations call The Great War went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Unfortunately, the conflict – which began in 1914 and was joined by the United States in 1917 – did not end war, despite the enormous devastation and loss of life that it brought.

November 11 became Armistice Day throughout much of the world. Following World War II, the name was changed to Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in many other nations. No matter the name, the day is an appropriate time to thank our veterans for their sacrifices in times of both war and peace.

My offices will be closed tomorrow, November 12, in honor of Veterans Day. They will reopen Tuesday morning.

Sincerely,
