Rep. Frank Pallone Statement on Veterans Day

Nov 9, 2012 Issues: Veterans

LONG BRANCH, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today released the following statement to mark Veterans’ Day, which is celebrated on Sunday, November 11, 2012.

“Today I join Americans across the country in honoring our veterans for their service to our nation. Our men and women in uniform represent the best of our country.  As our region recovers from the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, I would especially like to thank the National Guard and other members of the U.S. Military who have participated in rescue and recovery efforts in New Jersey.

“Veterans Day is an opportunity for Americans to renew our commitment the nation’s more than 2 million troops and reservists, their families, and 23 million veterans, including nearly 30,000 here in the Sixth Congressional District that their sacrifice to our nation will not be forgotten and make sure they have the tools they need live successful and healthy lives when their services are concluded.  I am proud to have joined with my colleagues in Congress to expand access to health services for all veterans with the largest single funding increase in the history of the Veterans Administration to add more doctors and nurses at VA hospitals and to expand our efforts to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injuries.  We also enacted a post-9/11 GI bill to restore the promise of a full, four-year college education to our veterans.  There is still more to do, including addressing unemployment for returning veterans.  The members of the armed forces who fight for our country overseas should not have to fight for a job here at home, which is why it is critical that we work to expand job opportunities for returning veterans.

“This day and every day, let us honor the service of our nation’s veterans and pledge to fulfill our commitment to them when they return home.”
