Brigadier General Milford E. Davis is deputy commander of the Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, Canadian Forces Base North Bay, Ontario, Canada. He is also commander of the 1022nd Support Squadron, Space Command, and is the senior U.S. military officer assigned to Canada.
General Davis was born in Lake Placid, N.Y., in 1931. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1954 with a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry and received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He earned a master of business administration degree in management from St. Edward's University, Austin, Texas, in 1974. His service schools include Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and the Air War College.
He entered active duty in January 1955 and completed pilot training at Bryan Air Force Base, Texas, in March 1956. The general attended advanced flying school at Moody Air Force Base, Ga., until August 1956 and was then assigned to the 321st Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, Paine Air Force Base, Wash., flying F-89s. In February 1959 he was assigned to the 59th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, Goose Air Base, Labrador, as an F-89 pilot.
General Davis was assigned as a weapons controller and air surveillance officer with the Reno Air Defense Sector, Stead Air Force Base, Nev., from June 1960 to September 1962. He then transferred to the 604th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron, Freising Radar Site, Germany, as an air surveillance officer. In August 1963 General Davis joined the 32nd Fighter-Interceptor Squadron at Camp New Amsterdam, Netherlands, flying F-102s.
In July 1966 he was assigned to Headquarters Aerospace Defense Command, Ent Air Force Base, Colo., initially as a command post duty officer and in 1967 to the Directorate of Standardization and Evaluation (F-102s and T-33s). The general attended F-4 training at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., in June 1968 with a subsequent assignment to the 435th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 8th Tactical Fighter Wing (Wolfpack) at Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, where he flew 220 combat missions in F-4s from January 1969 to January 1970.
Following his tour of duty in Southeast Asia, General Davis transferred to the 12th Air Force Tactical Air Control Center, 602nd Tactical Air Control Center Squadron, Bergstrom Air Force Base, Texas, where he served in current operations as a fighter duty officer and as chief of fighter/reconnaissance plans in the Current Plans Division until 1972.
General Davis completed transition training in F-111s at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., and was assigned to the 27th Tactical Fighter Wing, Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., in November 1972.
Initially assigned in the wing Operations Training Division, the general became commander of the 522nd Tactical Fighter Squadron in June 1973. In January 1975 he was named the wing's assistant deputy commander for operations.
In July 1975 General Davis was assigned to Headquarters 12th Air Force as director of standardization and evaluation at Bergstrom Air Force Base and as an F-111 flight examiner. He was vice commander of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, Kunsan Air Base, South Korea, flying F-4s from March 1977 to June 1978. He then took command of the 18th Tactical Fighter Group at Kadena Air Base, Japan.
The general went to Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, in June 1979, as assistant deputy chief of staff for operations. In March 1981 he was named commander of the 24th North American Aerospace Defense Region/Air Division at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont., and in August 1982 he became commander of the U.S. Air Force Air Defense Weapons Center, Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla. He assumed his present duties in October 1983.
General Davis is a command pilot and has more than 6,700 flying hours. His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with 12 oak leaf clusters and Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster.
He was promoted to brigadier general July 1, 1981, with date of rank June 29, 1981.
