Brig. Gen. Thomas W. Bergeson is Director, Operational Capability Requirements, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Plans and Requirements, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. In this position, he establishes policy for operational capabilities-based requirements. The directorate supports major commands in developing and evaluating requirements for Air Force-wide modernization programs including fighters, bombers, mobility aircraft, space systems, command and control, munitions, missile defense and Air Force irregular warfare requirements. He chairs the Air Force Requirements Oversight Council and is responsible for shaping and finalizing capabilities-based requirements documents for approval by the Joint Requirements Oversight Council. He directs and supervises the activities of more than 112 military and civilian employees in 6 divisions, including requirements officers, weapon systems experts, and professional, technical and clerical staffers.
General Bergeson was commissioned in 1985 as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. The general has commanded a fighter squadron, an operations group, fighter wing and has held various staff assignments, including Executive Officer to the Commander, Air Combat Command and Chief of Aviation, Strategic Operations, Multi-National Forces Iraq. Prior to his current assignment, he was the Senior Defense Official and Defense Attaché in the United Kingdom.
General Bergeson is a command pilot with more than 3,100 hours in fighter aircraft, including the F-15 and F-22.
