Selected for reassignment as Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance, Headquarters United States Air Force, Washington, D.C.

Maj. Gen. Jim H. Keffer is the Deputy Chief, Central Security Service, National Security Agency, Fort George G. Meade, Md. He assists the Chief, Central Security Service, who also serves as the Commander, U. S. Cyber Command, and Director, National Security Agency, with operational control of signals intelligence missions conducted by all the military services and the Coast Guard, comprising more than 15,000 personnel.

General Keffer was commissioned in 1982 through the ROTC program at the Memphis State University, Tenn. He has commanded an airborne intelligence squadron, a cyber group, and a 7,000-member signals intelligence/cyber wing. During his tenure as wing commander, he was recognized as an "Honorary Chief Master Sergeant" by the Fort Meade Chiefs' group. The general has also served as an air attaché to Austria, Slovakia and Slovenia when the latter two countries were becoming NATO members. At the Pentagon, he served as the senior military assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. Prior to his current assignment, General Keffer deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, where he served as the Deputy Director for Intelligence, Multi-National Forces-Iraq/U.S. Forces-Iraq, for a year.
