Mr. Gary A. O'Connell is Chief Scientist, National Air and Space Intelligence Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Mr. O'Connell is responsible for product content and quality for the center's intelligence products, and he ensures these products satisfy the needs of the center's joint operational, acquisition and policy-making customers. He provides technical oversight and strategic leadership for more than 2,200 people.

Mr. O'Connell, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, began his government career as a co-operative student with the Naval Surface Weapons Center, Dahlgren, Va. Upon graduation from the University of Cincinnati, he started work as an air-to-air missile analyst for the Foreign Technology Division, now known as NASIC. He was appointed as Chief of the Air-to-Air Weapons Branch in 1988, and held several positions in management until his appointment as Chief Scientist in 2005. He has served as the Air Force representative to the Weapon and Space Systems Intelligence Committee and the Scientific and Technical Intelligence Committee. He was promoted to Defense Intelligence Senior Leader level in January 2004.
