Brigadier General Norris W. Overton is vice commander, Army and Air Force Exchange Services, Dallas.

General Overton was born in Clarksville, Tenn., Jan. 6, 1926, and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis in 1946. He received his bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1951 from Indiana University and was designated as a distinguished military graduate from the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps program and commissioned a second lieutenant. He received a master's degree in business administration from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1959 and graduated from the advanced management program at the Harvard University School of Business Administration in 1972. General Overton completed the Air Command and Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces by correspondence and the Air War College by seminar.

After completing the accounting and disbursing officer course, Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., General Overton was assigned as finance officer, 18th Fighter Bomber Wing, Chinhai, Korea, in February 1952. Assignments followed as deputy finance officer, Forbes Air Force Base, Kan.; finance officer, Grenier Air Force Base, N.H.; finance officer, Bordeaux Air Base, France; and deputy accounting and finance officer, Lindsey Air Base, Germany.

In 1959 he became chief, Comptroller Services Division, Air Force Plant Representative Office, Curtiss-Wright Corporation, Woodridge, N.J. A similar assignment followed in 1960 to the Milwaukee Contract Management District, Milwaukee.

In January 1963 General Overton assumed duties as the staff accounting and finance officer, Karamursel Common Defense Installation, Turkey. He was an associate professor of aerospace studies at the University of Iowa from 1964 to September 1968, when he was reassigned as base comptroller, Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Republic of Vietnam.

General Overton was transferred to Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., in October 1969 as executive officer to the deputy assistant comptroller for accounting and finance, and later was assigned as the assistant deputy assistant comptroller for accounting and finance.

In November 1972 General Overton became the deputy chief of staff, comptroller, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. He was assigned as deputy chief of staff, comptroller, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces in February 1976. He assumed his current duties in July 1979.

His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award ribbon, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm.

General Overton was promoted to the grade of brigadier general on May 1, 1979, with date of rank April 24, 1979.

His hometown is Indianapolis.
