Allen Wood Rigsby was born in 1905, in Salado, Texas. His family later moved to Oklahoma City, Okla., where he graduated from Central High School in 1923. After high school he entered the University of Oklahoma at Norman, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in 1927, a bachelor of laws degree in 1928, and continuing in graduate work in 1929.
He entered military service through the ROTC program in 1928 as a reserve officer. His first tour of active duty began July 1940 when he was assigned to Fort Sam Houston as judge advocate for the 8th Corps Area.
During World War II he was sent to the European Theater of Operations in 1945, and in April 1946 was appointed Staff Judge Advocate, U.S. Air Forces in Europe. He was transferred from Europe in October 1948 to the Far East on special assignment.
From January 1950 to October 1954 he was staff judge advocate for the Strategic Air Command. During these years he served at various times as guest lecturer for the Army Judge Advocate General School and the Air Command and Staff School.
He was assigned to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Lowry Air Force Base Colo., in October 1954 as the academy's first professor of law and head of the Department of Law. During this assignment he developed the course of instruction now being given to cadets.
He returned to SAC Headquarters as staff judge advocate in March 1957.
On May 1, 1960 General Rigsby became judge advocate at Headquarters Air Materiel Command, now Air Force Logistics Command.
General Rigsby's decorations include the Legion of Merit and the Commendation Ribbon.
He belongs to Phi Gamma Delta, Phi Alpha Delta, American Bar Association, Oklahoma Bar Association, Judge Advocate Association (Board of Directors 1952-1958), Army and Navy Club, Washington, D.C., Army-Navy Country Club, Arlington, Va. He was a practicing attorney in Oklahoma City from 1929 until called to active duty in 1940.
