Statement on National Public Lands Day 2012

Representative Reichert issued the following statement for National Public Lands Day 2012: 

"National Public Lands Day is an opportunity to celebrate all the parks and public lands that offer recreational opportunities for our families and an economic boost for our communities. There is nothing quite like fishing the Yakima River or hiking in the Cascades," said Reichert.

"Our great outdoor spaces and activities are reasons so many of us live in this beautiful state. It is also up to all of us to ensure that our kids and grandkids will continue to enjoy and benefit from these opportunities. Like the volunteers building a bike trail at East Tiger Mountain and improving Mount Rainier National Park, it is all of our responsibility to keep public lands public and our communities healthy. That's why I continue to support funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which provides non-taxpayer-funded grants for sportsmen's access and easements on working ranches and forests, as well as protecting parks and wildlife refuges. The outdoors is our heritage and it is common sense that we work together to protect it."
