Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following statement today on the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

“Over a decade ago, terrorists struck at the heart of our nation with an attack that killed almost 3,000 people.  Today we remember not only the heartache of those moments and those we lost, but the heroism of all those who joined together to help their fellow neighbors and fellow Americans.  We are reminded of the bravery of our first responders and the strength of a nation that came together in the aftermath of a heinous attack to stand united. 

“As we reflect on this dark day in our nation’s history, let us use its memory to evoke the united spirit that helped us heal and carry on in the days, months, and years following the attack.  In those moments, we saw the best that our nation had to offer in the face of tremendous hardship.

“Let us also remember and thank the men and women who were called into service following September 11th and those who still serve – giving so much of themselves and sacrificing so much for our country.”
