WASHINGTON, D.C. – Earlier this year, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed U.S. Senator Roy Blunt’s (Mo.) resolution designating today, November 8, 2012, as “National Parents as Teachers Day.”

The resolution recognizes the “Parents as Teachers” organization, which was founded 25 years ago in Missouri and continues to work with families in all 50 states and seven other countries. U.S. Senator Patty Murray (Wash.) was an original cosponsor of the resolution.

“It’s important that we recognize that parents are the first and most influential teachers in a child’s life,” said Blunt. “Twenty-five years after it was founded in Missouri, the Parents as Teachers organization continues to provide important opportunities for children and valuable resources for families around the world. As a former educator, I’m proud to support this program and I applaud its mission to give children a strong foundation for learning.”
