You should definitely baby proof for a newborn - being a parent is hard work and they grow quickly - be prepared for safety

SIDS occurs in infants less than 1 year. After a year most will turn on their own. Infant to sleep on their back till 1

we do not recommend bumper pads; the physical injuries they prevent are minor and they present a suffocation risk

In addition to having a safe crib without bumpers, don't bedshare, don't smoke, and breastfeeding is helpful to reduce risk

SIDS is unfortunately still out there. Our advice is that infants should sleep Alone, on their Back in their own crib.

When a baby can foot up to the top of the crib - it's probably time to move her out of it.
