Newt goes there: Reminds voters Mitt put family dog on roof of car

Newt Gingrich is out swinging with a new web ad dubbed, “For The Dogs.” The soon-to-be released ad highlights some of Romney’s most humorous verbal gaffes — an obvious attempt to poke holes in the notion of Mitt Romney’s electability.

It features clips of some of Romney’s not-so-greatest moments, including greatest hits like:

“I like being able to fire people…”

“Corporations are people.”

“I’m running for president for pete’s sake, I can’t have illegals.”

“10,000 bet?”

“Small varmints, if you More »

Gordon Gekko image to replace the Republican elephant?

Republicans better like the picture of Mitt Romney and his Bain Capital buddies with cash falling out of their pockets — because they’re going to see a lot of it.

If Romney wins the nomination, that photo becomes the brand image for Republicans. The “rich” Republican stereotype is here to stay.

Personally, my guess is Bain Capital did some sketchy things — nothing illegal! — but that their net impact on the More »

Taking Romney out of context (just like he did to Obama)

Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, campaigns at the Rochester Opera House in Rochester, N.H., Sunday, Jan. 8. (Luke Boelitz for WBUR)

They’re taking Mitt Romney out of context. And they’re doing it with glee.

This headline says it all: “Romney Likes ‘Being Able to Fire People’.”

(Romney, of course, wasn’t talking about firing employees — as the headline implies — but rather, allowing citizens to fire their insurance companies More »

Evangelical leaders unlikely to derail Romney with a ‘consensus’ candidate

Never mind Lou Gehrig, Mitt Romney may be the luckiest man on the face of the earth.

A few days ago, Politico reported that Texas evangelicals had called an “emergency meeting” in order to “find a ‘consensus’ Republican presidential hopeful…” (According to an invitation obtained by The Daily Caller, the meeting was billed as a  way for “Conservatives of faith” to “reach a consensus on which Republican Presidential candidate or candidates we can support…”)

Of delegates, math, and election rules …

Let’s suppose, having just won Iowa, Mitt Romney goes on to win New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries (this is not an impossible scenario).

Romney would have, at that point, won just 37 of the 1,144 delegates needed to clinch the GOP nomination. (The likely amount is much lower; he won’t win all 12 of New Hampshire’s delegates.)

Psychologically, he would be perceived as unstoppable. But mathematically, not so much.

Note: The reason Romney would have accumulated so More »

In a new ad, Huntsman fires back at Romney for knocking his service as ambassador

Jon Huntsman’s campaign is capitalizing on his debate skirmish with Mitt Romney, which began Saturday night, and continued during Sunday morning’s debate.

On Saturday night, Romney criticized Huntsman for serving in the Obama administration. The attack seems to have fallen flat. A Frank Luntz focus group, which aired on Fox News Sunday, pretty clearly demonstrates that most Granite Stater’s don’t think Huntsman has anything to apologize for (when asked if his service bothered More »

Newt Gingrich on the passing of Tony Blankley

Tony Blankley with his former boss Newt Gingrich, March 7, 1995.

Tony Blankley was a class act. I knew him a bit, and he could not have been a more kind or generous man.

His former boss, Newt Gingrich, released the following statement today:

Tony was a remarkable life force. His father had been Churchill’s accountant. After World War II their family moved to Hollywood where his dad worked in finance in More »

Tragedy of the conservatives: Why Romney’s wimpy foes are acting rationally

nhdebate1.banner.jpg

Don’t understand why Mitt Romney’s Republican opponents won’t lay a mitt on him? This started way back when Tim Pawlenty wouldn’t say “ObamneyCare,” but who could have imagined Romney would skate this long? It boggles the mind, but there are actually several good reasons why Romney continues to get a pass.

One way of explaining the phenomenon might be to compare it to “The Tragedy of the Commons, which More »

Limbaugh and Erickson disagree on Santorum’s ‘big government’ conservatism

Rush Limbaugh and RedState’s Erick Erickson may represent different generations of conservative alternative media, but they usually agree on politics. Until now.

Each have staked out strong positions — on opposite ends — of a great debate taking place this week over an important question: Is former Sen. Rick Santorum is a “big government” conservative.

To hear Limbaugh explain it, the very notion is absurd. On Wednesday, the popular talk radio host took to the airMore »
