Dear Friend,
We are a nation at risk.
Our government’s out-of-control spending and annual deficits are leading us off a fiscal cliff. This sobering realization caused me to seek public office in an effort to restore fiscal sanity back to our country. Here are some of the ways that I have been working hard to cut spending – both in my individual office and in our national budget:
- Led by Example: gave back nearly $50,000 of my own salary to pay down the deficit, cut my office budget to 2008 levels and declined all federal benefits;
- Made Congress accountable by linking its pay to its performance by introducing the Lead by Example Act and cosponsoring the No Budget, No Pay Act;
- Tied the impending sequestration cuts to politicians’ paychecks by cosponsoring the Member Pay Reduction and Responsibility Act;
- Voted TWICE for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution and cast many tough votes to control federal spending;
- Voted to reform the tax code to make it flatter and fairer for all Americans and to eliminate lobbyist-inspired loopholes;
- Introduced a House resolution expressing the sense of Congress that the fraud and waste in the Medicare system must be addressed as part of any reform plan.
Our country is headed in the wrong direction, but there is still hope. We need leaders to rise above partisanship and find common ground to get our country’s finances back on track. I am only one Member, but I am doing something about it.
Mindful that I work for you, I remain
Yours in Freedom,
Scott
