CONGRESSMAN AUSTRIA'S REACTION STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT OBAMA'S FY2013 BUDGET

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Steve Austria (R – Beavercreek) released the following reaction statement on the President’s FY2013 Budget:

“The President promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term however this budget calls for another trillion dollars in deficit spending for FY2013.  We cannot continue the same failed policies of more borrowing, more spending, and higher taxes that have hurt small businesses, stifled job growth, and slowed our economic recovery.  Washington does not have a taxing problem, Washington has a spending problem – we cannot continue to raise taxes on our job creators and small businesses and expect them to create jobs.  It is not fair to continue to pass the deficit onto our children and grandchildren,” said Congressman Austria.

“Additionally, during a time of difficult budget constraints, we must ensure that any Defense reductions are done in a fiscally responsible manner that continues to ensure our strong national defense.  As a member of the House Appropriations Committee I intend to work closely with the Defense Department to protect Wright-Patterson, the largest single-site employer in the state, and other missions that are important to Ohio and our country.  I look forward to reviewing in detail the President’s budget request and going forward, I will continue to work towards the goal of eliminating the wasteful Washington spending and producing a fiscally-responsible budget that will help drive economic growth and create certainty in the financial markets,” Congressman Austria concluded.
