Dear Friend,

President Obama often speaks of fairness as a political and policy goal. The following are some sobering facts about the President's vision of fairness:

  • If President Obama got every tax increase he is asking for ($1.9 trillion over the next decade), it would cover only 4.1% of the total spending he is seeking ($45.43 trillion).
  • The President's so-called "Buffett Rule" (the Buffett Tax), if implemented, would only reduce our deficit over the next ten years by 0.4% and equal just 0.1% of what the government will spend.
  • The President's corporate tax reform plan would result in a net increase in taxes and would preserve a system of winners and losers in the U.S. Tax Code. For example, he would take a temporary tax credit for green energy companies like Solyndra and make it permanent and refundable, the direct opposite of closing special interest loopholes.
  • The President's failed policies have helped add more than $5 trillion to our national debt over just three years – more than was added over the previous 200 years combined.
  • Under the President's Dodd-Frank Act, the concept of "Too Big To Fail" is codified into federal law, perpetually forcing taxpayers to cover the losses of major Wall Street firms.

While President Obama continues to push for job-killing tax hikes on small businesses and for spending more money that we do not have – all in the name of "fairness" – House Republicans have been busy implementing our bipartisan Plan for America's Job Creators which includes stopping the President's tax hikes and reforming the tax code to end all loopholes and bailouts. In fact, since the beginning of this Congress, the House has passed over 30 bipartisan jobs bills all of which have been blocked by the Democrat-controlled Senate and White House. It is time for President Obama and Majority Leader Harry Reid to stop playing politics and pass these job-related bills.
