Hi, this is Congressman Canseco. I have the honor of representing the 23rd District of Texas....a district with a rich history, particularly as it relates to the energy industry. There was once a time when the "energy industry" consisted of hopeful Americans who drilled holes in the ground, hoping that black gold would shoot out. However, with rapid technological advances came complex operations that created tens of thousands of new jobs and increased production.

One of the greatest advances in energy production has been hydraulic fracturing....or "fracking." Fracking is a process used to crack underground rock formations to release oil and natural gas that otherwise would be impossible to reach; it's now one of the primary methods used to retrieve natural gas -- particularly within the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford Shale here in Texas.

Thanks to the energy produced through fracking, Americans have enjoyed lower costs for goods and services, more job opportunities and greater independence from foreign energy sources. The Yale Graduates Energy Study Group found that the increase in shale gas production caused by fracking technology allowed consumers to enjoy over $100 billion in savings on the price of goods and services in 2010 alone. Moody's Analytics recently estimated that shale gas production has created one million jobs since 2002, and Citigroup economists and analysts predict U.S. oil production would increase by more than one-third by 2015 simply because of hydraulic fracturing.

Investing in this technology would seem like a no-brainer, however, rather than bring jobs to communities that desperately need them and savings to families that are already under enough financial stress, the Obama Administration and its environmental extremist allies want to shut down fracking in the name of preventing water contamination. Environmental extremists continue to fight against fracking despite Lisa Jackson -- President Obama's own Environmental Protection Agency director -- claiming she wasn't aware "of any proven case where the fracking process itself affected water."

As the representative of the 23rd District of Texas, I want to see more jobs and greater energy production brought to the district and that is why I will continue to pursue proven energy policies that will allow Texas to produce more energy and create additional jobs.
