Congressman Connie Mack (R-FL) Discusses Budget Reforms with Lee County Republican Women

August 15, 2011
Congressman Connie Mack (R-FL 14) addressed the Lee County Republican Women's club, and discussed necessary budget reforms with them, following his vote not to raise the debt ceiling in the most recent Congressional budget deal. Congressman Mack also addressed the nation's fiscal downgrade by Standard and Poor's, stating that "the reason we got downgraded is that the only thing this bill did... was raise the debt ceiling without any real cuts in the budget," echoing S&P's own statement following the downgrade. Congressman Mack has long opposed raising the debt ceiling, instead calling for real cuts to be made to the federal budget to effect a long-term solution. Congressman Mack's solution is the One Percent Spending Reduction Act of 2011, also called the Mack Penny Plan, which would cut one percent of federal spending a year for 6 years.
