Boustany- "Today's rally shows how important energy jobs are to Louisiana"

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Southwest Louisiana), today made the following statement regarding the Rally for Economic Survival in Lafayette, Louisiana.  Attendees urged President Obama to end the moratorium on offshore energy drilling.

"Today’s rally shows how important energy jobs are to Louisiana, and I hope the President will listen to the message of those who attended,” said Boustany. “The moratorium impacts thousands of jobs and families throughout the Gulf.  The people of Louisiana remain committed to cleaning up the coast, but they also want to return to work producing the energy that powers America forward.”

Thousands attended the rally at the Cajundome in Lafayette.  A recent study by the Lafayette Economic Development Authority projected a six-month moratorium could cost Louisiana 37,000 jobs.  Boustany continues to work with a bipartisan group of his colleagues in Congress to overturn the Administration’s moratorium.
