Shelters set up around the region
Officials throughout the region have set up shelters available at several locations for those who need to evacuate their homes during Hurricane Sandy.
The American Red Cross now has a new app that shows you -- on a map -- exactly where they have open shelters. More info here: http://www.redcross.org/prepare/mobile-apps
In addition, the Red Cross' Safe and Well website is a central location for those in disaster areas in the U.S. to register their current status, and their loved ones can access that information.
Shelter are available at the following locations:
Northampton County:
St. John's Lutheran Church, 310 Ferry St., Easton, during the day as needed
The Salvation Army, 1110 Northampton St., Easton, during the day as needed
Berks County:
Reading High School, 801 N. 13th Street, beginning Monday at noon. Pet owners may bring their pets with them -- the Berks County Animal Response Team (CART) will offer shelter for pets whose owners have been displaced by Hurricane Sandy.
If the effects of the hurricane force residents to stay in the emergency shelter for periods longer than a few days, pets will be moved to more suitable housing at the Humane Society of Berks County at 1801 N. 11th St in Reading.
The City of Reading has opened all of the city's parking garages Monday and parking enforcement is suspended at meters in the city as well.
