Veterans Day was greeted this morning in Vacaville and Fairfield with patriotic ceremonies and a parade that drew a crowd of thousands.

A C-17 flyover had the crowd cheering in downtown Fairfield as did the show of patriotism by local dignitaries and veterans groups who participated in the annual event.

Young and old alike lined the streets to salute those who hae served their country. The parade came in the afternoon following morning services in both Vacaville and Fairfield.

Dozens of local veterans were thanked and honored by the crowd at the Vacaville ceremony, which included presentation of colors by local veterans and thank-you speeches by DVBID director Bob Vollmer and Mayor Steve Hardy, and the laying of a wreath by Hardy

and Gold Star Father Pat Sheehan.

Vollmer encouraged the crowd to shake hands with those veterans among them saying, "We should thank them for their services. I think sometimes we forget how hard they fought for the freedoms we enjoy."
