RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Whether someone is experiencing aches and pains, or recovering after an injury or surgery, the 48th Medical Group Physical Therapy Clinic can provide a service.

"The Physical Therapy Clinic's main focus is to rehabilitate patients after injuries or surgeries so they can return to their daily activities as soon as possible," said Staff Sgt. Alyssa Cexton, 48th MDG PT technician.

According to the clinic, physical therapy is the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.

With three active-duty physical therapists and six technicians, the clinic is able to help Airmen from RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall and RAF Feltwell with any musculoskeletal disorders they may have.

"Having physical therapists and technicians in the Air Force is important because we enable our airmen to be 'Fit to Fight' and return to duty faster," said Cexton. "This means less manpower hours lost and providing therapy at a cheaper cost than civilian physical therapy clinics, which saves the Air Force a significant amount of money."

The most common injuries the clinic treats are sprained ankles; individuals recovering from ankle, knee and shoulder surgeries; and knee, hip, neck, back and shoulder pain.

Currently, physical therapy is limited to active-duty members, but the clinic offers treatment to dependents, Department of Defense employees and retirees when resources and space are available.

Airmen who wish to utilize physical therapy must be referred by their primary care manager.
