Cost of Sequestration
Already facing tepid economic growth, an almost immediate loss of 225,000 jobs would be devastating to the state of California. Sequestration cuts would also represent a loss of $22 billion in state GDP. Cuts would be most especially felt in Los Angeles County, resulting in revenue losses of $2 billion for defense contracts alone.
The Bigger Picture
The impending sequestration cuts extend much further than the national defense budget. Social programs make up half of the planned $1.2 trillion sequestration, drastically reducing access to much-needed services in many of our underserved communities. We must find a compromise to avert the across-the-board sequestration cuts before its too late.
Job Saving Solutions
Formed by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation in August 2012, the L.A. Jobs Defense Council brings together defense and business leaders with representatives from labor and public officials throughout Southern California. The Council's goal is to propose a model county resolution that will prepare our region for FY2013's looming cuts.
